Sims commits at Dawg Camp

Athens — Lowndes offensive lineman Dyshon Sims commited to play football for the Georgia Bulldogs on Friday evening.

The annual event at at Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall is where high school players and recruits come to show off their skills to the Bulldog coaches and staff, which transforms the event into a breeding ground for verbal commitments as well.

Fans gathered at Georgia's Dawg Night camp Friday night to see if any commitments would be made. After learning of the recruitment of Macon’s wide receiver Shakenneth Williams and Lake Gibson High safety Kendall Grant, Sims became the third and final commitment of the night.

Sims spoke to on Friday.

"I'm just trying to stay here because I'm committed now," said Sims. "I'm already done."

The massive six-foot-four, 275 pound Sims made the move from left guard to left tackle for the Valdosta Wildcats last season where he stymied the opposing rush with a combination of power, balance, and a set of great feet.

Sims is loaded with the type of tools and potential that scouts fall in love with.

Sims already possess the frame, length and athleticism of a collegiate player with a lot of room to add strength. With the type of work ethic Sims owns, anything is possible down the road.

The three-star recruit transfered to Lowndes this year where he will be tasked with holding down the blindside for the Vikings.

Sims will be joining up with three returning starters, center Bryan Roe, and guards Cole Rigdon and Dewayne Hart to give Lowndes a roadgrader offensive line which the coaching staff considers a strength for the team going into the 2013 season.

Sims continues the recent pipeline of talent from Valdosta  to Athens. Sims will follow former Viking Josh-Harvey Clemons, former Valwood Valiant Aulden Bynum, and former Wildcats Malcolm Mitchell and Jay Rome on the Bulldogs roster.
