Valdosta State setter Ashley Lala has earned the recognition of Gulf South Conference coaches leading up to the 2013 season, earning a spot on the Preseason All-GSC team, as announced by the GSC office on Friday.
Lala enters her third season with the Blazers averaging 1037 assists per season over the course of career and leading the team in the category both her freshman and sophomore campaign.
In 2011 the Kenner, La. native tallied 1223 assists along with 94 kills, 25 service aces, 373 digs and 32 blocks.
Her accomplishments during her freshman season earned her the GSC Freshman of the Year award, and a spot on the All-GSC Second Team. She was named to the All-GSC Second Team once again in 2012 after appearing in 30 matches for Valdosta State while racking up 851 assists, 55 kills, 12 blocks, 27 service aces and 237 digs.
The Blazer volleyball squad was also projected to finish fifth in the conference based on the GSC preseason poll.
Conference champion West Florida was projected to finish in the top spot, followed by Christian Brothers in second, North Alabama third, and West Georgia fourth.
The final two spots slotted Alabama-Huntsville and West Alabama in the sixth and seventh positions, respectively.
