Atlanta Taekwondo Super Regional Championship

VALDOSTA —  21 students of Performance Martial Arts Academy recently competed at the Super Regional Championships held in Atlanta.

Church’s students performed extremely well at the event sponsored by the American Taekwondo Association.

Mark Webb was able to place first in Traditional Weapons, Creative Forms, Extreme Forms, Creative Weapons and Extreme Weapons. Webb, competing in the fourth and fifth degree black belt division, also placed second in Sparring and third in Traditional Forms.

Jennifer Powell placed third in Traditional Weapons and Sparring in the same division.

In the second and third degree black belt division, Jennifer Hardy placed first in Traditional Weapons and Combat Weapons, while placing second in Traditional Forms and third in Sparring. Kyle Turner placed third in Sparring and Combat Weapons.

Church’s pupils really shined in the first degree black belt division. Madison Swain, placed second in Sparring and third in Traditional Weapons and Combat Weapons; Duane Cunningham placed third in Sparring; Christian Dawson placed first in Traditional Forms and second in Traditional Weapons.

 William Horsley placed first in Traditional Forms and Combat Weapons and he placed third in Sparring.

Patrick Horsley placed first in Combat Weapons.

 The Howell’s performed admirably as well. Kim Howell placed second in Traditional Forms, third in Traditional Weapons and Sparring. Howell also placed first in Combat Weapons; J.T. and Tyler Howell both placed fourth in Traditional Forms and Weapons in their respective age groups.

Lukas Smidtas placed third in Traditional Weapons, Sparring and Combat Weapons; Ethan Bueno placed third in Traditional Forms and Combat Weapons; Zachary Coody placed fourth in Combat Weapons; Annaleigh Coody placed third in Sparring and Combat Weapons and Rhett Hamm placed third in Traditional Forms and Sparring.

 Finally, in the color belt division, Torrie Bullard placed first in Traditional Forms; Ben Melvin placed third in Sparring; Riley Klein placed first in Traditional Weapons and Combat Weapons. Klein placed third in Sparring.

 Sahil Patel placed first in Traditional Forms, Traditional Weapons and Sparring, and Dr Renaldas Smidtas placed third in Traditional Weapons.

    Mark Webb and Madison Swain both earned world championships at the American Taekwondo Association's Taekwondo World Championships a few weeks ago. Four other Performance Martial Arts students also competed in the event.
