Barcol wins fight at Winter Heat

VALDOSTA — Kelly Barcol, the 44-year-old pastor of the House of Joy, came out victorious in his amateur mixed martial arts fighting debut Saturday night at Bud Light Winter Heat in Mathis City Auditorium.

Barcol defeated Bryant Meacham by Armbar Submission in the second round of Saturday night’s fights in Valdosta.

Barcol also won as all the proceeds of the night’s events benefited the House of Joy community center.

In the main event of the night, Lake Park’s Shaun Gay was quickly defeated by opponent George Reagon.

Gay lasted just 36 seconds into the first round of his fight after Reagon connected a quick punch to Gay’s face, sending him to his hands and knees.

The referee stopped the fight and he was later treated by medical personnel for a possible jaw injury, according to reports.

Valdosta’s James Marino defeated Harris Norwood by a Rear Naked Choke with 36 seconds remaining in his second round fight.

Lowndes High graduate, 21-year-old Emily Parker, was defeated by TKO 24 seconds into her second round kickboxing event against Ashley Hancock.

Valdosta resident, and Honolulu, Hawaii native, E.J. Kaku won his amateur fight over Jermaine Tillman with a first-round TKO.

Rick Carter of Adel was beaten by Brandon Griffin in a grappling match that started the night’s festivities.

Carter was originally set to fight in an MMA fight, which was scrapped after his opponent failed to pass the state’s medical requirements during screening on Friday night.

Other results included: Ramon Mallory defeated Kenji Griffin by unanimous decision; Bill Vickers defeated Francisco Quijada by unanimous decision; Anthony Mitchell defeated Manny Cruz by unanimous decision; Alex Wade defeated Steven Nieselowski by unanimous decision; Tony Davis defeated Lei Ding by TKO in the second round; Forrest Pettay defeated Michael Boyette by unanimous decision and Dean Grant defeated Nathan Barnes by Armbar Submission in the second round.
