Haddin signs with Georgia Highlands College

VALDOSTA — Lowndes High School senior basketball player, Coretta Haddin signed a scholarship to play for the Georgia Highlands Chargers Thursday evening.

Haddin, a three year starter for the Lady Vikings, has been on the radar of Georgia Highlands head coach, Brandan Harrell for quite some time.

“I’m excited, anxious, I’ve just got jitters about it,” Haddin said. “These coaches have been watching me since my sophomore year and they’ve been coming to some of our games throughout the season.”

Haddin played the center position form the post for the Lady Vikings under head coach and former Valdosta State Lady Blazer, Brittany Ferguson.

“She is a great role player,” Lowndes assistant coach Clemons said. “She has a great attitude. She learnt a lot from freshman to senior year, she has definitely improved.”

Haddin has been a key cog of a Lady Vikings team that enjoyed two 20 win seasons during her tenure.

Haddin provided the team with big-time effort while averaging 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game in her final season.

“I’ve enjoyed my four years of high school,” said Hadden. “We made it to state my freshman, sophomore, and junior year, and we made it to the Sweet 16 my freshman and junior years.”

She also earned honorable mention for Region 1-AAAAAA last season.

Haddin honed her skills with the AAU team, South Georgia Lady Shooters from the eighth grade through her junior year.

Head coach Michael Adams commented on Haddin’s great defensive work, and the work she does on the floor with the other girls; Adams also allowed Haddin some coaching responsibilities this season.

Hadden’s parents, John and Angela have tried to provide her with the best coaching available.

“I was the one who instilled the skills and fundamentals and she just grew from there,” said private one-on-one trainer Mike Strickland. “Her mom and dad took the time out of their days, an hour and a half or so, five to six times a week... We watched her develop, like a rose we watched her grow. It’s very rewarding.”
