Dori Carter holding junior clinic, golf tournament

VALDOSTA — Professional golf hopefuls or even those that are just interested in learning how to play golf will have the opportunity to learn from the best next Monday, Nov. 25.

Dori Carter, a professional golfer from Valdosta, will be holding a community-wide, junior golf clinic. The clinic will be held at the Valdosta Country Club driving range from 4-5 p.m. and will give attendees a chance to learn the basics of golf and grow their love for the sport.

There is no cost to participate in the event and clubs will be provided for those who do not have their own set.

For more information about the community wide junior clinic or to sign-up, please contact Cary Brown, the head golf professional at Valdosta Country Club at 229-241-2000 for information.

"Golf has been a big part of my life. I've been able meet so many great people and visit so many wonderful places. I was fortunate enough to learn golf at an early age. I want to give other kids that opportunity, especially here in my hometown of Valdosta," said Carter.

Carter will also be hosting a Pro-Am golf tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 26, to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The tournament will be held at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club at 10 a.m.

“There are two daughters whose dad’s work together in the same office with cystic fibrosis which is a rare disease,” said Carter. “This is just me trying to find a way to give back and to do my part.”

The tournament will be a four person plus one pro format, with the two low scores combined. First place will win Titleist Irons. Second place will win Titleist Drivers. Third place will win Cleveland or Taylor Made Drivers. All players will receive a $100 gift certificate from the Kinderlou Pro Shop. The cost to enter is $1,200 per team.

Professionals will be auctioned off at a pairings party at Kinderlou on Monday, Nov. 25. at 6 p.m. Bids will start at $250 for lady pros.

Angela Stanford is one of the LPGA pros scheduled to play, as well as headliner Harris English, who won the final PGA event of 2013 in the OHL Classic a week ago.

“Harris is a great guy for taking his time out to help us,” said Carter.

Local pros will be used if more than 12 teams sign up to compete.

Food will be provided at both the pairing party and the tournament.

To sign up for the tournament, please contact Bill Robinson at Kinderlou Forest Gold Club at (229) 219-2300.

  • LeBron: I'm coming back to Cleveland

Before anyone ever cared where I would play basketball, I was a kid from Northeast Ohio. It’s where I walked. It’s where I ran. It’s where I cried. It’s where I bled. It holds a special place in my heart. People there have seen me grow up. I sometimes feel like I’m their son. Their passion can be overwhelming. But it drives me. I want to give them hope when I can. I want to inspire them when I can. My relationship with Northeast Ohio is bigger than basketball. I didn’t realize that four years ago. I do now.
