Valiants well-represented with post-season honors

HAHIRA — The Valwood football team was well-represented in post-season honors this year as four Valiants made the GISA All-State team and a total of nine players were selected to the All-Region 3AA Team.

Senior linebacker Reggie Robinson, who led the team in tackles, and senior defensive back/wide receiver Char Merine, who has already committed to play football at Colgate University this season, were chosen All-State.

They were joined by do-everything senior Carter Elliott and senior lineman Marvin Dobson. Elliott kicked field goals, punted, kicked off, played wide reciver, and was a back-up quarterback this season for the Valiants, while Dobson, in his first year at Valwood, was an anchor on line of scrimmage.

Those four players were also selected to the All-Region team and were joined by senior quarterback Seth Carlo, senior lineman Spencer McQuaig, junior running back Zane Edmondson, junior tight end and defensive end Anthony Folkerts, and running back and corner back Marik Merine.

Valwood’s nine All-Region selections were four more than any other team in Region 3AA.

In addition, Valwood had eight other players receive the honor of All-Region honorable mention. Six seniors - George LaHood, Colby DeCesare, Kyle Wilkes, Ryan White, Jake Richards, and Zack Richards – were selected, while juniors Eli Carlo and Garrett Lovell also were named.

Rounding out the post-season awards for the Valiants was head coach Ashley Henderson, who won Region Coach of the Year for the second straight year.

Henderson led the team to a 12-1 record and runner-up for the state championship this season and has amassed a 26-1 record (.962 winning percentage) in his two seasons at the helm of the Valiants.
