Lowndes softball wins again, sweeps Camden County

KINGSLAND —  The Lowndes High softball team traveled to Camden last Saturday, to face the Wildcats in a doubleheader; the Vikettes were able to leave Kingsland with a 5-1,7-0 sweep.

The Vikettes have relied on two pitchers to not only keep them in the game, but to also score runs, and the plan has been successful so far.

Crystal Eason and Haley Fowler continue to dominate to opposition this season. Both pitchers have been near unhittable, as Camden was soon to learn.

Eason started the first game of the doubleheader and pitched seven innings and gave up zero earned runs, allowing only seven hits while striking out three batters.

While Eason kept the Wildcats off balance with her arm, Fowler and the fellow Vikettes scored plenty of runs.

Both Fowler and Becca Prairie went 2-4 with a homerun in the game, and Meredith McLendon went 1-3, with a double and two RBI's.

The Vikettes won the game 5-1.

In the second game of the afternoon, Fowler was able to contribute even more as she took the mound and shutdown the Wildcats’ offense.

Fowler pitched seven strong innings, only allowing two baserunners while striking out six.

Fowler didn’t let her start on the mound effect her bat a bit.

Both Fowler and Prairie topped their output in the first game, going 3-4 with another homer for each. Prairie had two RBI’s and Fowler brought in three runs in the 7-0 victory.

"We played very well this weekend against a well coached Camden County team,” said Vikettes head coach Stewart Thomas. “Both Crystal Eason, and Haley Fowler pitched extremely well, and they will have to continue to do that for us to reach our goals. Offensively we had some players really step up and get some clutch hits when we needed them. Fowler and Prairie both had great weekends at the plate. We still have some work to do defensively, we cannot give good ball clubs extra outs and base runners they don’t earn, and expect to win ball games. Overall I am excited to see the improvements that we have made throughout the course of this year, but we must continue to get better so that we can finish strong."
