Lowndes’ girls continue trek through region

VALDOSTA — Lowndes High girls soccer defeated Thomasville Saturday afternoon by a score of 5-1. The Bulldogs got on the board first despite the Vikettes dominance in time of possession in the first half, but the defensive back field of Nyah Grant, Addie Bausch, Clara Burke and Kaitlyn Staten only allowed one shot on goal in the half.

The 1-0 score held until the second half when Shelby Joyner scored off a Chelan Worms pass to even the game up.

Haylee Gordon followed with a couple goals of her own to put the game out of reach midway into the second half.

The play of the game occurred in the 70 minute when Andrea Baxter sent a pass wide to a racing Zoey Storey who sent a perfect left footed ball to the backside of the six-yard box where a streaking Elizabeth Lott headed the ball into the back of net.

Cami Taylor finishing the scoring as time expired by redirecting a shot by Lott.

Lowndes followed up the win against Thomasville by traveling to Tifton Monday night where the Vikettes came up just short after two hard fought 40 minute halves and two overtime periods, losing in penalty kicks 3-2.

Goal keeper Kate Tunison put the team in great position to grab a major region victory when she stopped the first two of Tift's penalty kicks, but the Blue Devils responded by making the next three attempts while the Vikettes were unable to reciprocate, only managing to net two penalty kicks.

After a Tuesday win over Valdosta, Lowndes (9-2) will travel to Moultrie on Friday.
