Residents of a Valdosta apartment complex will learn today if their water service will be shut off while the city waits for a wire transfer payment for water service from the property’s management company.
The 480 Murray apartment complex on Murray Road was scheduled to have its water service terminated at noon Tuesday following months of non-payment, but an agreement was reached to keep the water on for the residents, according to the City of Valdosta.
Water service is included in monthly rent charges, and property manager the Woodlark Companies is responsible for making utility payments to the city.
A wire transfer to pay the bill in full is expected today from Situs Property Management, a Pennsylvania firm that is handling 480 Murray’s finances while it is in receivership. It is unclear whether Situs was late in paying the bill or if that responsibility fell to property manager Woodlark Companies. Questions to a company spokesperson to clarify remain unanswered Tuesday evening.
Deputy City Manager for Administration Mark Barber expects that payment in full for the 480 Murray bill will be made today and that no disruption of service will occur.
“The City of Valdosta has been patiently working with the apartment complex management for weeks to collect the overdue payment of utility services. The city has given the management multiple opportunities to responsibly pay their bill, so that the families living at the complex are not impacted ... We hope to have this issue resolved soon,” said Sementha Mathews, City of Valdosta public information officer.
Mary Murdoch, a spokesperson for the Woodlark Companies, said the company “does not anticipate any further non-payment issues."
Woodlark Companies also manages Woodstone Apartments, a Valdosta complex that did lose water service due to non-payment in September. Woodlark paid a portion of the outstanding bill to have water service restored.
