UPDATE: Arrest made in Valdosta store robbery kidnapping

VALDOSTA — Homerville police arrested a suspect this afternoon in connection with the robbery of a Valdosta convenience store and the kidnapping of a a store clerk, according to the Valdosta Police Department.

Kevin Dewayne Hutcherson, 31, of Homerville is charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, aggravated sodomy, possession of a knife during the commission of a crime, police report.

On March 14, 2014 at approximately 12:47 am, the Valdosta Police Department responded to the report of a robbery that occurred at the Murphy Express, 277 Norman Drive. According to the victim, at approximately 12:40 am a dark skinned, African American male, approximately 6 feet tall and 200 pounds, entered the store looking around, then pulled out a knife, and demanded money. The victim gave the offender money from the cash register. The offender restrained the victim and forced her into his truck. The victim was able to jump out of the truck at the intersection of Norman Drive and West Hill Avenue and run into a business where employees called “911”. The victim was not seriously injured in the case. The offender continued eastbound on Hill Avenue. A lookout to other law enforcement was sent out by Valdosta Police for the truck. The truck, a blue Ford Ranger which had been stolen out of Clinch County, was later spotted in Homerville. A vehicle pursuit occurred and ended with the offender wrecking and running on foot, but he was not located. Detectives from the Valdosta Police Department and a Crime Scene Technician from the Valdosta-Lowndes Regional Crime Laboratory responded to investigate the incident. Detectives continue to follow up on leads and have recovered helpful evidence in the case.
