Three teens connected to Lowndes County burglaries

Lowndes County Sheriff's Office

VALDOSTA — Lowndes County Sheriff Chris Prine has released the following;

In recent weeks, deputies with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office have responded to a number of residential burglaries that have occurred primarily in the southwest portion of the county. Officers with the Valdosta Police Department have also seen an increase in burglary reports. Investigators have continued to work on these incidents and in conjunction with detectives from the Valdosta Police Department developed information on a group of suspects.

On Wednesday, an officer with the Valdosta Police Department observed the group who were taken into custody. During follow-up investigation, a residence in the 800 block of East Brookwood Drive was searched and investigators and detectives were able to recover property from multiple burglaries that recently occurred in the county. It was discovered that the group had recently rented a room at a local motel which was also searched and additional property was recovered. The vehicle that had been used by the group was impounded as evidence was located in it as well.

As a result of this investigation, Demarcus Evans, Balewa Ferguson, Bruce Brown and a juvenile were arrested and have been charged for receiving stolen property. The investigation is ongoing and investigators will be filing burglary charges on the group in the near future. The juvenile was detained at the regional youth detention center and the others remain in the Lowndes County Jail. Sheriff Prine stressed that these investigations are ongoing and additional charges will most likely be filed against this group and others if they are identified.
