A boil water alert has been issued as a precautionary measure for water customers in the Bluepool Subdivision area, until further notice.
On April 30, 2013, at approximately 6 p.m., the City of Valdosta Utilities Department received a call stating that a contractor installing cable in the Bluepool Drive and Kensington Lane area hit a water main. Upon investigation, the Utilities Department found that Bingham Cable Company bored through a 10” tapping sleeve on the water main causing a loss of water pressure and resulting in portions of the Bluepool subdivision to be without water.
Utilities Department staff, along with the help of a local underground contractor, started repairs on the broken water main. Water service is expected to be restored to these customers by this evening, May 1.
As a result, all customers on Kensington Lane, Kensington Circle, Palmer Drive and Amy Circle will all be under a Boil Water Alert until further notice. The boil water alert is a precautionary measure for customers in the affected area only and is not meant for the general public as a whole. Customers in this affected area should boil any water to be used for drinking or cooking for at least 2 minutes, and then allow the water to cool before consumption.
The Utility Department has placed notices at each location affected by this alert. There is no indication that there has been any contamination of the water in this area. However, daily water samples will be collected and tested per regulatory requirements until the water is determined to be safe for use, at which time the boil water alert will be discontinued.
