At least two people were injured in a traffic incident Wednesday involving a British couple traveling on the wrong side of the road.
At 3:40 p.m., Georgia State Patrol responded to a two-vehicle wreck on Georgia Highway 122 near Miller Road. During wet and rainy road conditions, a black Mazda traveling on the wrong side of the road collided with a Frito-Lay delivery truck. The driver of the Mazda and a passenger were injured in the wreck along with the driver of the truck, according to reports.
The driver and passenger of the car were reportedly visiting from England and were driving a rental car from Florida. The driver was traveling on the left-hand side of the road, forcing other cars off the roadway before colliding with the truck, said GSP Sgt. L. Carl Taylor.
Lowndes emergency medical services responded to the scene and treated the 71-year-old driver who sustained injuries to his head, and the 63-year-old passenger who sustained injuries to her abdomen. The driver of the truck told troopers he swerved to miss hitting the car and suffered an injury to an upper extremity, reports stated.
All three were transported to South Georgia Medical Center for treatment, but the female car passenger was later transferred to a hospital in Tallahassee, Fla., said Taylor.
