FOREST PARK, Ga. —
Clayton County police were still searching for suspects Wednesday after a 13-year-old boy was shot to death during an armed robbery and attempted carjacking outside Atlanta.
Two men in an SUV approached Steven Galindo as he was putting air in his sister’s tire Monday night in Forest Park — just south of Atlanta — authorities said. They demanded the keys to the woman’s car and their other belongings, police said.
Police say Galindo’s sister gave one suspect her keys and the $5 she had while the other man tried starting the woman’s vehicle. Authorities say the car didn’t start and one of the suspects began shooting at it. Galindo and his sister tried running away but the teen was hit by gunfire, police said.
The woman told WSB-TV (http://bit.ly/1625iOK ) when she realized her brother had been shot, she turned around and tried giving him CPR. The eighth-grade student later died at a local hospital.
Family and friends gathered Tuesday night for a candlelight vigil near the spot where the child was killed.
The woman said her brother dreamed of joining the Marines, loved football and was supposed to begin practice this week.
