Portion of Toombs Street closed for three weeks

VALDOSTA — On Thursday, Feb. 7, the City of Valdosta Engineering Department will close Toombs Street, between Wayne Avenue and Victory Drive, for construction work on the Gornto Road Extension.

This portion of Toombs Street will remain closed for approximately three weeks and will be accessible only for local residential traffic.  Motorists are urged to adhere to the traffic warning signs and drive cautiously around these construction sites, for their safety and the safety of the workers. Toombs Street will reopen on March 1 to all traffic.

Once complete, the Gornto Road Extension will connect Woodrow Wilson Drive to Gornto Road, providing another east-west corridor across the city.  The project is expected to be completed by December 2013.
