Lowndes High will not host vigil Thursday night

VALDOSTA — Lowndes County school officials said today that a vigil will not be held at Lowndes High School Thursday evening as proposed by a student in today's editions of The Valdosta Daily Times. There will be no vigil Thursday evening on the school's campus for Kendrick Johnson, the sophomore found dead in the old gym last Friday, according to Lowndes County School System.

However, family members of the late Kendrick Johnson will be holding a community-wide vigil at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Saunders Park.

The event will include words from people who know Johnson and will have moments of remembrance for others in the community who have recently passed away.

Aside from honoring Johnson and others, the vigil will focus on violence and the effects it has on the community.
