Valdosta man charged with filing false report

VALDOSTA — The Valdosta Police Department released the following statement this morning:

On December 11, 2013 at approximately 8:15 am, (a man) came to the Valdosta Police Department to file a report indicating that at approximately 2:00 am in the area of Toombs Street and West Hill Avenue, he had been robbed at gun point, assaulted, and kidnapped (forced to drive around town). After approximately three hours of detectives questioning (him) about the inconsistencies in his stories, he finally admitted that he was not telling the truth and that the incident involved an attempted narcotics transaction. Due to the waste of multiple man hours from detectives and officers of the Valdosta Police Department, Jason Day was arrested and charged with giving a false statement and obstruction. Day was transported to the Lowndes County Jail.
