Lowndes deputy makes marijuana trafficking arrest

VALDOSTA — Lowndes County Sheriff's Office released the following statement this morning:

On Tuesday evening around 8:40, a deputy assigned to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, Interstate Criminal Enforcement unit stopped a Lexus S.U.V. that was driving south on I-75 after noticing the vehicles extremely dark window tint. Once the vehicle stopped, the deputy made contact with the driver ... and explained the purpose in the traffic stop. While speaking with (the driver), the deputy noticed that he was visibly nervous and this seemed to worsen as the conversation continued. A Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit performed a sniff of the vehicle and received an alert. A search revealed approximately eleven {11} pounds of marijuana hidden in a duffel bag in the vehicle. This marijuana has an estimated street value of $33,000.

Vu Cao, 39, of Rex was arrested and transported to the Lowndes County Jail where he remains. He is charged with trafficking marijuana. He will appear in the Lowndes County Magistrate Court this afternoon for an arraignment hearing where a bond will be considered.
