Commission discusses annexation request

VALDOSTA — At the Lowndes County Board of Commissioners meeting Monday morning, the commissioners discussed a property annexation request from the City of Lake Park.

Lake Park has requested approximately ten acres of a larger property to be annexed from Lowndes County into the City of Lake Park. The City wants the property so The Gardens Apartments can build multi-family units for residents ages 55 and over.

The Commissioners have 30 days to respond. Commissioner Crawford Powell informed the Commissioners that the County may have to provide water and sewer to the new development.

Another proposal came from the County's engineering department; the department requested the county adopt a resolution accepting county maintenance for the Nelson Hill Subdivision Phase II.

The Commission will also vote to enter into a Master Service Agreement with the company iVision.

This agreement will act as a blanket agreement for all future services provided to Lowndes County, iVision  is a full-service IT consulting and engineering company who sells software, hardware and services for high end technology. The County's I.T.S. Department plans to utilize iVision to upgrade and replace their database server array.

The Commissioners will also vote to renew an agreement with the Department of Transportation for a rural transportation program.

There are three rezoning request before the County Commission:

• An estate on the 5900 block of Bird Hall Rd. request to be changed from Estate Residential (E-A) to Residential Agricultural (R-A) because the applicant wants to decrease the size of the subject property because of family estate plans.

• A property at the 4700 block of Hickory Grove Rd. requests to be rezoned from (E-A) to (R-A) because the applicant wants to gift/ sell the property to a son so they can develop it residentially.

• A property at the 4700 block of Knights Ferry Rd. requests to be rezoned from (E-A) to Rural Planned Development (PD-R) so that the property owner can use the land as an event center to host weddings, celebrations, and meetings in a rural setting.

The Lowndes County Board of Commissioners will meet today at 5:30 p.m. to vote on all of the previous items.
