Valdosta authorities investigate arson in house fire

Three adults and two children escaped injury this week when someone apparently started a fire at the Valdosta residence’s doors, according to the Valdosta Police Department Thursday.
Police detectives and the Valdosta Fire Department are investigating the case as an arson, according to police reports. Additional charges, such as reckless conduct, may be added once a motive is established, said Valdosta Police Cmdr. Leslie Manahan.
Authorities were still looking Thursday evening for a suspect or suspects in the case.
At 2 a.m. Wednesday, three adults, a 12-year-old and a 6-year-old were inside the 1200 block Morningside Drive residence when one occupant “smelled smoke and told everyone to get out of the house,” Manahan said. “The homeowners were able to put the fire out before it got out of control. A neighbor woke up and called 911 as well.”
The house experienced some damage but it was not extensive, Manahan said.
No injuries were reported.
Anyone having any information regarding this robbery is urged to contact the Valdosta Police Department, (229) 293-3135; or may remain anonymous by calling the Crime Tip Line at (229) 293-3091.
