Valdosta investigators unable to interview injured industrial park workers

VALDOSTA — The cause of last week’s fire and explosions at Perma-Fix of South Georgia remain undetermined today as fire investigators report they were unable to conduct expected interviews Monday with hospitalized workers.

“When the fire inspectors arrived at the hospital yesterday, the two individuals were being tended to by the medical staff,” said City of Valdosta Public Information Officer Sementha Mathews. “There is nothing new to report until those interviews are conducted. At this time, we do not know when these interviews will be rescheduled, as it will all depend on the medical conditions of these individuals.”

Perma-Fix of South Georgia employees Charlie Curry and Stan Williams remain hospitalized from injuries sustained during the Aug. 14 chemical fire and explosion.

On Monday, Valdosta Fire Chief J.D. Rice said there is no indication of foul play in the incident. “All indicators point toward an accident.”
