Valdosta police work two aggravated assault cases

VALDOSTA —

The Valdosta Police Department released the following statements:
 
On July 30, 2013, at approximately 4:30 p.m., a victim reported that an African American male fired multiple gunshots in the direction of his vehicle, a 2001 Jeep Cherokee.  The victim stated he was in his vehicle under the overpass on Martin Luther King Drive.  He stated an African American male pulled up next to him in a dark colored truck and fired multiple shots from a handgun in his direction.  The victim reported multiple shots hit his vehicle on the driver’s side but he was not stuck.  The victim reported the offender immediately fled the area as he did also.  
 
The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time as the offender is still at large and could pose a threat to the victim’s safety.  VPD Detectives are working multiple leads on this case and the Valdosta Lowndes Regional Crime Laboratory are analyzing the ballistics recovered in this case.

At this time, the possibility of this case being related to the homicide on West Gordon Street is being investigated but not confirmed.

On July 30, 2013, at approximately 10:00 p.m., a Valdosta resident was shot in the lower body by an unknown offender.  The victim was outside his residence when someone came up behind him and shot him in the leg.  The offender is described as an African American male wearing a white shirt.  The victim said that after the shot was fired, two African American males ran east on East Jane Street.  Police Officers and Detectives from the Valdosta Police Department responded along with deputies from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.  The victim was transported to South Georgia Medical Center for treatment and it appears that his wound is non- life threatening.   Witnesses were interviewed and detectives are currently following up on leads at this time.  Ballistics have been collected and will be analyzed by Forensic Specialists at the Valdosta Lowndes Regional Crime Laboratory.
 
The victim’s name is being withheld in this case as the offender (s) are still at large and pose a threat to the victim.  
 
At this time, the possibility of this case being related to the murder on West Gordon Street and the aggravated assault on West Martin Luther King Driv  is being investigated but not confirmed.
