Brian Browning, incumbent for Lowndes County Board of Education District 3 seat, announced Monday that he is planning to run for another term.
“I have qualified March 3, 2014, and am officially announcing my plans to seek re-election for the Lowndes County Board of Education District 3 seat. The past four years have been educational and rewarding for me in my first term as a Board of Education member. I am so proud of the accomplishments of our system and the positive direction which we are heading.”
Browning cites among his achievements in the last four years serving on the board as assisting the system in transitioning from the retirement of the former superintendent to the leadership of current Superintendent Wes Taylor; finding ways to offset the state austerity cuts in funding and to restore the Calendar Adjustment Days, with the 2014-15 budget meeting that goal.
“Lowndes County Schools is recognized state-wide with high achieving schools through exemplary student achievement. Additionally, our system continues to receive accolades and recognition as having outstanding students and teachers. Foremost, my first priority is to provide a safe learning environment for our children and school family. During my term as Board member, we have worked in conjunction with the Lowndes County Sherriff's Department to reach this goal by placing a full-time Sherriff's Deputy in each school.”
According to Browning, he is a local business owner, and has lived in Lowndes County as a Viking for 20 years. His wife is an educator with the Lowndes County School System, and their daughter is a 5th grader at Westside Elementary. The family attends First Baptist Church, Valdosta.
“Serving as a School Board Member requires a passion. I am passionate about our schools and our school system. Our children are our future. I plan to continue working for our schools. My goal is for our children to receive a world-class education. The result being opportunities entitling them a bright future as leaders of tomorrow,” he said.
“Our school system is currently experiencing great success - we have come a long way, and have a long way yet to go. However, I am determined to see our system prosper and thrive throughout another term as a School Board Member. I have had the opportunity to serve as Vice Chairman on the Board of Education since 2012, and look forward to providing leadership for four more years.
“With the continued growth of Lowndes County, I believe the experience I have gained during my first term as a School Board Member equips me to navigate the challenges and opportunities on the horizon, and continue in our quest for “Excellence Every Day”, said Browning.
