Two school buses stolen from the Lowndes County School bus yard in October were found this past weekend in a very unlikely place.
The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office received information Saturday that the buses could be found at EverBank field in Jacksonville, Fla., where the Georgia / Florida game was being played.
“We contacted the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, and their auto theft unit helped us out,” said Lowndes County Sheriff’s Lt. Stryde Jones.
There were several buses parked at the stadium that were being used to shuttle fans to and from the game. Members of the auto theft unit searched the buses and located buses 12-95 and 12-16, the two Lowndes County School buses that had been stolen sometime between Oct. 5 and 6.
The sheriff’s office is working with Jacksonville law enforcement to investigate.
Roger Christie, Lowndes County Schools transportation director, traveled to Jacksonville Tuesday to retrieve the buses.
