VALDOSTA — Surveillance cameras led to the arrest this morning of a suspect in the Wednesday night armed robbery outside of the Norman Drive Walmart, according to the Valdosta Police Department.

Kenneth Lewis, 45, of Valdosta was taken this morning to the Lowndes County Jail on an arrest warrant for armed robbery, police reported. Other charges are pending.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, a man approached a 48-year-old Lake Park woman in the Norman Drive Walmart’s parking lot. He held a knife to her and demanded the woman’s purse.

The woman refused and struggled with the robber. He eventually took her purse and fled the scene, Valdosta police reported.

The woman received a minor cut to her upper left arm which was likely caused by the robber’s knife, police reported.

Police arrived but were unable to locate the robber at the scene. Valdosta Police Department Person’s Crime Unit detectives responded to the scene. They obtained the Walmart surveillance video which helped police detectives identify a suspect.

Police officers went to the suspect’s residence and took him into custody at 8:15 a.m. today. They brought him to the Valdosta Police Department for questioning.
