Thieves make off with $500,000 in jewelry in heist

The Associated Press

SNELLVILLE, Ga. — Police in Gwinnett County are searching for a man and a woman suspected of stealing more than $500,000 in jewelry during an armed robbery in the Snellville area.

Authorities say the crime occurred around 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kay Jewelers on Scenic Highway.

Gwinnett police Cpl. Jake Smith tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://bit.ly/13xdR0B) that the male suspect was armed with a black handgun. He ordered the two employees, the only people in the store, to get on the ground.

Smith said the gunman’s female accomplice then entered the store, retrieved a key from the employees and began unlocking display cases and loading jewelry into a bag. She then used a stun gun and used it on both employees, shocking one of them three times.
