VALDOSTA — Valdosta police were searching for a suspect Tuesday in the Christmas Eve robbery of a downtown business.

At approximately 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, a man entered the South Georgia Pecan Gift Shop, 401 E. Hill Ave., according to the Valdosta Police Department.

He handed the clerk a note, stating he was robbing the business and demanded money, said Valdosta Police Chief Brian Childress.

When the clerk opened the cash register, the robber reached into the till and grabbed the money, the chief said.

The robber ran out of the store and fled in an unknown direction on a bicycle.

No one was injured in the robbery by sudden snatching case.

Police searched the downtown area near the robbery location but had not located a suspect as of The Times’ early Christmas deadline Tuesday afternoon.

Crime-scene technicians and VPD detectives worked the robbery scene. Childress said evidence was recovered in the crime.

Police describe the suspect as a black male, approximately 6-foot-4, with a “thick build” of 220-240 pounds, 20-25 years of age.

He wore a dark-colored hoodie.
