Trooper rescues abducted mother and child

VALDOSTA — A call to a boyfriend and a sharp-eyed state trooper led to the Lowndes County rescue of an abducted woman and her daughter.

At approximately 11:50 a.m., Isabel Godinez Lopez and her 5-year-old daughter, Joselyn Michele Coc, were reportedly abducted from their residence on Clairview Drive in Chamblee, by the child’s father and another male, according to the Chamblee Police Department.

Lopez has been separated from her daughter’s father for about two years and reportedly left the Hollywood, Fla., area to escape a history of threats and domestic violence, according to police reports.

During a stop at a restaurant, Isabel was able to call her current boyfriend, Joel Godinez Lopez, from a bathroom and informed him about what was happening, according to authorities. She said the men were taking her and her daughter back to Florida and she was afraid for their safety. She described the burgundy colored Ford Ranger with Florida tags they were traveling in and said they were traveling on Interstate 75 going south, according to Chamblee police.

Joel alerted authorities, and an Amber Alert was

issued through the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation which provided support in the investigation along with the Hollywood Police Department.

About 13 miles before the vehicle hit the Florida state line, GSP Trooper Brian Bass spotted the Ranger and was able to stop it. Isabel Lopez and her daughter were recovered safely without injury and returned to their home in Chamblee.

Isabel’s ex-boyfriend, Luis Coc Reyes, 27, and Porfirio Alvarez were arrested without incident and charged with kidnapping, according to authorities. Both men were taken to the Lowndes County Jail and then transported to Chamblee Tuesday morning.

The Chamblee Police Department credits Bass and his dedication for the successful resolution of the incident and the apprehension of the suspects. The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office assisted with this case.
