Valdosta school employee arrested on molestation charges in Tifton


A former Valdosta City School employee is in jail after being charged with multiple counts of child molestation, according to authorities.
Michael Thompson, 60, was arrested Thursday in Tifton and faces 14 charges: two counts of solicitation of sodomy, aggravated sexual battery, aggravated child molestation, four counts of enticing a child for indecent purposes, four counts of child molestation, sexual exploitation of a minor through obscene telephone contact and sexual exploitation of a minor through the electronic furnishing of obscene material to a minor, according to the Tifton Police Department.
Thompson worked in maintenance with the Valdosta City School system from Nov. 15, 2010 until he was fired the day of his arrest last week.
The victim is not a student at Valdosta City Schools, according to the Tifton Police Department which reported that the school system has cooperated fully with the investigation.
Magistrate Judge Brian Cavenaugh denied bond for Thompson on all 14 charges. Thompson is currently in the Tift County Jail.
The investigation is ongoing, and more details about his arrest are expected today from the Tifton Police Department.
