The family of a 17-year-old found dead earlier this year at Lowndes High School has filed a petition in Lowndes County Superior Court seeking the coroner open an inquest into their son’s death.
Kenneth and Jacquelyn Johnson, parents of Kendrick Johnson, have filed the civil petition in Lowndes County Superior Court. The Johnsons want Lowndes County Coroner Bill Watson to conduct a coroner’s inquest into the cause of Kendrick’s death.
The Johnsons dispute the state’s investigation which determined the LHS student’s cause of death as accidental. A second autopsy, initiated by the Johnsons, determined the death as non-accidental.
In the past, Watson said there is no reason for a coroner’s inquest because he agrees with the state’s autopsy that determined Kendrick Johnson’s death as accidental.
