February is Heart Health Month and the annual Heart Health Expo on Saturday, Feb. 15 from 9 a.m. until noon at the Valdosta State University Center.
The Expo offers free EKG’s, cholesterol and blood sugar screenings, blood pressure checks, foot screenings and body fat analyses. Educational classes on Compressions-Only CPR, heart-healthy eating, smoking cessation, and diabetes management will also be provided. Participating physicians are Dr. William “Doug” Luke, Dr. Joel Cohen and South Health District Medical Director Dr. William R. Grow. Foot screenings will be conducted by local podiatrists, Dr. Devin Daugherty, Dr’s. Erin and Nic Dodson, and Dr. Rodney Raker. Appointments are required for portions of this event and can be made by calling 229-433-1074.
“Heart disease is a leading killer of both men and women and by educating people on the signs and symptoms of heart disease, we are saving lives,” said Trey Powell, MD, Chief of Cardiology Services at South Georgia Medical Center.
The event is co-sponsored by SGMC’s Dasher Memorial Heart Center, South Health District, and 100 Black Men of Valdosta, Inc.
