Gunfire kills toddler on driveway of his home

LILBURN, Ga. — Police say a 3-year-old boy was shot to death on the driveway of his home in Lilburn, just outside Atlanta.

Gwinnett County police Cpl. Jake Smith said the boy was hit by gunfire apparently intended for someone else shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Investigators believe a dispute between family members escalated to gunfire outside the home on Stafford Drive, near Indian Trail Road.

Smith tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://bit.ly/1f13FSX) that investigators think a family member was trying to shoot someone else when the boy was struck.

Smith said the suspect, whose name wasn’t released, was being questioned by investigators but had not been charged with any crimes late Tuesday.
