VALDOSTA — Police are searching for three suspects in an armed robbery Tuesday night at Drexel Park.

At approximately 11 p.m., two individuals, one a Valdosta State University student, were walking through Drexel Park at North Patterson Street and East Brookwood Drive. They were approached by three black males wearing hooded sweatshirts and scarves covering their faces. Two of the assailants brandished handguns and demanded that the victims drop their belongings. The robbers then grabbed the items and fled, said Lt. Aaron Kirk with the Valdosta Police Department.

The victims reported that a bookbag was stolen that contained identification cards, keys, wallets and other items.

The suspects were described as black males in their mid 20s wearing hoodies, scarves and light-colored jeans.

The VSU Police Department responded to assist in the investigation, and the university issued a text alert to its students and staff shortly after the incident.

“If you see something suspicious, you may want to avoid secluded areas like a dark park,” said Kirk. “Stay on well-traveled areas like sidewalks, and be aware of your surroundings.”

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
