Man killed at train crossing in Sparks

SPARKS — A man was killed Friday when a city-owned truck was struck by a train in Sparks, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Around 3:30 p.m., the truck failed to yield at the crossing at Railroad Street, according to Sgt. J.C. Roberts of the patrol’s Tifton post.

The train hit the truck on the driver’s side, spun it around and ejected the driver, a 60-year-old man, he said.

There were no other people involved in the accident, Roberts said. The victim’s name is not available pending notification of next of kin, he said.
