LOS ANGELES JAZZ COLLECTIVE
Sampler Vol. 1
If you have an eclectic taste for jazz from spacy, neo-modernist jam sessions to more traditional jazz works, this album may satisfy your craving. The L.A. Jazz Collective is a “group of musicians working together to build a stronger jazz community within Los Angeles,” according to Two for the Show Media. “Through cooperative effort and education, they seek to promote their work and generate greater public appreciation for improvised music.” OK, the sampler leans a little more toward modern jazz compositions, or non-compositions as the improvisations indicate, but if you’re looking for a sampler of what’s happening on the L.A. jazz scene, this is a taste for anywhere in the nation.

BEATY BROTHERS BAND
This band has roots in a broken home in Texas that stretched its wings to find new life in New York. B3 features twin brothers John Beaty, alto sax, and Joe Beaty, trombone, as well as Ari Hoenig, drums; Jim Robertson, bass; Yayoi Ikawa, piano. B3 is jazz that finds its groove in a fourth B: the blues.
