A 20-year-old man was arrested and charged with shooting a new Atlanta police officer in the face Friday during a chase.
Investigators charged Frank Nance, 20, with aggravated assault, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, cocaine possession and other offenses. He was being held Saturday in the Fulton County jail.
He is accused of shooting Officer Reginald Robinson, who was listed in stable condition Saturday at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Police said Robinson was questioning a man over a suspected drug deal in southwest Atlanta when the man fled. The officer was shot in the face sometime during the pursuit. The 35-year-old officer graduated from Atlanta’s police academy in November.
Department officials were unable to release further information about the arrest of Nance, said Sgt. Greg Lyon, a police spokesman. The incident is under investigation by the department’s Office of Professional Standards, a step that is taken anytime a police officer is involved in a shooting.
