LEESBURG, Ga. —
Georgians taking down decorations after the holidays are being urged to recycle their Christmas trees.
WALB-TV reports (http://bit.ly/TyiV1j ) Lee County in southwest Georgia is among the local governments encouraging residents to turn their discarded trees into mulch.
All next week, from Monday through Saturday, the Lee County landfill and local firefighters will be accepting Christmas trees during their annual campaign called “Bring One for the Chipper.”
Officials say recycling Christmas trees not only keeps them from filling up landfills in the New Year, but it also keeps the trees from becoming a potential fire hazard.
