Former Lowndes standout Keira Peak was chosen the Southeastern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week last week.
Peak, a junior forward at Arkansas, earned the Player of the Week award after an exceptional showing at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Rainbow Wahine Showdown in Honolulu. She averaged 23.3 points in three games, and was named the tournament’s MVP.
In Arkansas’ first game of the tournament, Peak scored a career-high 30 points in a 73-70 loss to No. 13 Oklahoma. The next day, she scored 16 points and helped the Razorbacks defeat host Hawaii 83-68.
In the Razorbacks’ final game, Peak recorded her second double-double of the season, posting 24 points and 10 rebounds. She led Arkansas to a 79-67 win over Oregon.
Peak also scored 12 points in the Razorbacks’ first game of the week, an 80-57 win over Oral Roberts in Tulsa, Okla.
Including the Oral Roberts game, Peak averaged 20.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 1.7 assists last week.
Peak is the Razorbacks’ leading scorer this season, averaging 17.7 points per game.
Peak played four years for Lowndes’ varsity girls basketball team, and helped the Vikettes win three region championships. She scored over 1,200 points, grabbed more than 800 rebounds, had more than 200 steals and blocked over 100 shots. She was a three-time All-Region selection, and was a first-team All-State pick her senior year. She was also a track star at Lowndes, and won the state championship in the high jump in 2009.
