VALDOSTA — The city of Valdosta and Lowndes County will honor the last three Division II national championship teams at Valdosta State with a Parade of National Champions today.

The parade will begin at 4 p.m., and will commence from Mathis City Auditorium.

The parade will travel down Patterson Street and will finish in Drexel Park, across from Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.

In the park, Valdosta Mayor John Gayle, Lowndes County Commissioner Bill Slaughter and Valdosta State University President Dr. William J. McKinney will speak, followed by all three national championship head coaches.

The championship teams that will be honored today include the 2011 men’s tennis, 2012 softball and 2012 football teams.

Beginning at 3 p.m., Woodrow Wilson Drive will be closed from Ashley Street to Williams Street to help prepare for the parade.

All other parts of Woodrow Wilson Drive will remain open until the Parade of Champions begins at 4 p.m.

In the event of rain, the Drexel Park portion of the festivities will take place in the VSU University Center, Magnolia Room 2. The final call on the location of the event will be made by 3 p.m. and will be posted on the City of Valdosta, Lowndes County and Valdosta State University websites.
