VSU baseball rained out again, to play UWA today at 4 in Carrollton

VALDOSTA — Rain, rain, go away. Those are the words being voiced by nearly every member of the Gulf South Conference right about now, following three straight days of rain that forced the cancellation of the conference baseball tournament in two different locations.

After league officials changed the venue from Chattanooga, Tenn. to Carrollton, home of the University of West Georgia, because of heavy rain, the tournament was once again rained out Monday after just one game was played.

Once again, Valdosta State (31-15) fell victim to the rain and could not play its winner’s bracket game against West Alabama, the only other undefeated team remaining in the double-elimination tournament.

With a promising forecast that is calling for little to no rain, plenty of sun and temperatures in the mid 70’s, the Valdosta State baseball team is set to face West Alabama today at 4 p.m. in the winner’s bracket game.

The game will follow the matchup featuring West Florida and Delta State, an elimination game pitting two top 10 nationally-ranked teams against one another.

The promising forecast goes past today and tournament officials are beyond hopeful that the tournament will be finished Thursday without anymore delays.

No matter of today’s result against West Alabama, the Blazers will face West Georgia, the turned host of the tournament, Wednesday at a to-be-determined time.

West Alabama will face the winner of the Delta State-West Florida game Wednesday.

The championship game of the GSC tournament will be played Thursday, with the “If” game following later in the day, if necessary.

Valdosta State is 2-0 in the tournament thus far, beating North Alabama last Thursday and Delta State last Friday. Since then, the Blazers have been rained out for three consecutive days.

All Blazer games will be carried live on Talk 92.1 FM.
