VALDOSTA — The Lowndes High School Varsity Football Cheerleaders have been off to a great start in 2013.

The has a new coach, new cheerleaders and a new team this season and they are fired up and ready to tackle this football season.

The LHS cheerleaders are grateful for the community and sponsors across the Valdosta area as they have supported them and paved the way for the awesome start the team has gotten off to.

Each Friday, the LHS football cheerleaders visit various classrooms at Lowndes County elementary schools, Brookfield Academy and Park Avenue Pre-School to read to the Pre-K through second grade students.

This has been a tradition for the cheerleaders in the past. However, this year each elementary school in the Lowndes County System is participating and will have a chance to meet and learn with the cheerleaders.

The Principals, teachers and students have been a blast and visiting the Little Vikings has been a way for the girls to make reading exciting and important.

In addition, the girls join in on the academic fun going on the

classroom whether

learning the alphabet or counting numbers, the girls stay involved with the Little Vikings education.

On Sept. 7, the Lowndes Football Cheer-

leaders hosted a Little Vikings Cheereleading Camp for little girls in the Viking community ages 5-12.

The camp was an opportunity for these future Viking cheerleaders to learn exciting chants and cheers from the LHS Football Cheerleaders.

After a year off, the camp drew in 101

participants, the most yet.

The participants were organized in groups like the Viking Princesses, Crimson Princesses, Fairy Vikes, Royal Vikes and so on to add to the excitement and fun that occurred during the camp.

After working in groups, head cheerleading coach Denise Grooms demonstrated her enthusiasm and love for cheerleading as she got the Little Vikings energized and stirred up to review cheers.

The Viking mascot, Ben Martin made a special appearance after lunch and surprised the Little Vikings with a special cheer.

The Vikings cheerleaders are ready for Homecoming and Winnersville during these upcoming weeks and invite all of the Viking fans to come and help them cheer on the Vikings each Friday night.
