Football Fridays in Brief

-- — Fitzgerald edges Berrien, 21-14

FITZGERALD — The Berrien Rebels (3-4, 0-3) just missed pulling off an upset on senior night in Fitzgerald.  However, the Purple Hurricanes (5-2-1, 3-1) held on to win and successfully bounced back from their first region defeat at the hands of Brooks County last week.

The loss is Berrien's fourth consecutive after winning three straight to open the season.  Head coach Ed Pilcher and the Rebels will attempt to bounce back next Friday night at home against the Pelham Hornets.

Cook upsets Jefferson Co. in defensive battle

LOUISVILLE — The Cook Hornets stepped out of region Friday night (4-3, 1-2) and defeated the Jefferson County Warriors (6-2, 1-1) 10-6.  The Hornets never trailed, scoring first and holding on to beat Jefferson County in the team's lowest scoring game to date.

The victory represents a major surge of momentum for the Hornets, who will host the sixth-ranked Brooks County Trojans in Adel Friday night.

Clinch outlasts Wilcox, 20-13

ROCHELLE — Clinch County (4-3, 3-0) stayed perfect in region play by knocking off Wilcox County (2-5, 1-3) Friday night.  The win is the Panthers third consecutive, while the Patriots have now been defeated in five of their last six contests.
