VALDOSTA — The Valwood Valiants take to the road once more as they travel to Camilla, Ga. for another regional matchup against the Wildcats of Westwood High School. Valwood (6-0, 2-0 in region play) come into Friday’s game riding a 20-game winning streak after dispensing of the Eagles of Terrell Academy (Dawson, Ga.) a week ago 39-14.

The Valiants will need to clean up the sloppy play from last week if they wish to come out ahead of the Wildcats who head into the contest having won five straight, including their last two at home.

Last week, they played to a decisive 46-14 victory over the Sherwood Christian Academy Eagles (Albany, Ga.).

“Westwood is traditionally tough at home,” Valwood Head Coach Ashley Henderson said.  “I think they’ve lost maybe one game at home the past three seasons.”

Last year at Goddard Field, the defending champions easily took care of business against the Wildcats, cruising to a 48-18 win.

As with every upcoming opponent, Coach Henderson reiterates just how important it is to never count a team out because of the last meeting.

“We aren’t concerned with last year at all,” Coach Henderson said. “With (running back and linebacker) JT Edore and (running back/cornerback) Chason Worsham, Westwood is always in the ball game. They have big play ability from anywhere on the field.”

In last week’s game, numerous penalties made the night difficult for Valwood to capitalize on many possessions, both offensively and defensively. The Valiants were penalized over a dozen times.

Valwood’s balanced offense should cause issues for Westwood with weapons all over the field with Marik and Char Merine, Zane Edmondson, Seth Carlo, and Elliot Carter all presenting a problem for opposing defenses.

That being said, Valwood Head Coach Ashley Henderson is aware of what must be done on both sides of the ball in order to secure a win.

“We have great senior leadership on this team,” Coach Henderson said. “We are always stressing and working our fundamentals daily.”

To sum it up, be prepared for an exciting ball game in Camilla, Ga.

“(Westwood Head Coach Ross) Worsham will have those boys ready to roll,” Coach Henderson said. “They’re a fine football team.”

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
