A Zahimara Fantauzzi goal just second before halftime proved to be the deciding goal as Valdosta State was lifted to a 1-0 victory over Shorter in Gulf South Conference women's soccer action Wednesday.
The two teams played were evenly matched and the game was scoreless over the first 44 minutes
before Fantauzzi gained control of the ball with the seconds ticking down towards the halftime break.
With just three seconds to go in the half, her shot eluded the reach of Hawk keeper Haley Lademann in what would prove to be the game's only goal.
Valdosta State (8-1-3, 4-1-3) dominated the game
offensively as it out-shot Shorter (4-8-2, 2-4) in the contest, including a big 9-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Olivia Mills made saves on the only two Hawk shots on goal.
Valdosta State returns to action Friday when it travels to Columbus State for a 4 p.m. match.
