Valwood names honorary captains

VALDOSTA — The Valwood football team will have two special guests for Friday night’s game at Goddard Field.

Valwood head coach Ashley Henderson announced Tuesday that 4-year-old Addison “Addie” Seacrist and her sister Emma have been named honorary captains for the game and will accompany the team and cheerleaders throughout various events surrounding the game, including the coin toss.

Both sisters will participate in the coin toss prior to the start of Friday’s game and will then join the cheerleaders for their halftime cheer.

The night of fun comes after a tumultuous few months for Addie and her family.

Addie, 4, was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia with positive Philadelphia chromosome earlier this season and has gone through extensive treatment, including chemotherapy, since the diagnosis in August.

Donation buckets will be passed around throughout the game in order to help offset the medical costs felt by the Seacrist family.

Valwood hosts Central Fellowship Friday night in the first round of the GISA Class AA state playoffs. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. from Goddard Field.

To purchase a “My Friend is a Fighter” T-shirt, which helps raise money for Addie, interested persons may contact Amanda Morris via Facebook or through e-mail at
