Christian Brothers sweeps VSU volleyball

VALDOSTA — After sweeping North Alabama, the third place team in the Gulf South Conference, Valdosta State fell to Christian Brothers, the second place team in the GSC, by the same score, 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 26-24). With the loss, VSU drops to 14-12 on the season and 6-7 in conference play. Christian Brothers improves to 15-8, 8-3.

Valdosta State did not start the match well, hitting for a team attacking percentage of -.114 in the first set and fell, 25-13. The Blazers were able to rebound and make the second and third sets much more competitive.

 The Blazers hit for a team percentage of .250, their highest of the match, in the second set, a 25-22 loss. The second set was neck and neck most of the way until the Lady Bucs pulled ahead late.                

In the third set, VSU actually owned a 20-17 lead, but Christian Brothers came storming back late to complete the sweep.

 Tania Tauiliili led the way for VSU with 10 kills while Destiny Berry tallied seven kills. Katie Onushko and Chelsea Luttfring each finished with 15 digs while Lelalelei Nomura had 14. The best all around performance was turned in by setter Ashley Lala who finished with three kills, 26 assists, eight digs and two blocks.

 The Gillis sisters of Christian Brothers, Hailey and Alexis, led the Lady Bucs offensively with 14 and 10 kills respectively. Kelsey Miles gave out 43 assists and finished with 11 digs.

Libero Kristina Keadrick led all players with 20 digs.
