VALDOSTA — Lowndes’ tennis teams earned a pair of 5-0 victories over crosstown rival Valdosta on Wednesday at the Harry B. Anderson Tennis Complex at McKey Park.

Lowndes’ boys and girls teams are both 3-0 this season.

“I’m proud of the boys and girls today. They did well,” Lowndes head coach Heath Phelps said. “Region wins are big wins. (And it was against) Valdosta. Valdosta has a great team, a great squad, too. There were some battles.”

Lowndes’ No. 1 singles player, Samuel Price, had one of the best matches of the day, defeating Valdosta’s Andrew Greneker in three sets. Greneker won the first set 6-4, and was up a break in the second set. But Price broke Greneker twice, and went on to win the second set 7-5. Then Price won the deciding third set 6-1.

John Fuller of Lowndes defeated Valdosta’s Eddie Taylor 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and teammate Ben Burkhalter beat Tristan Williams 6-0, 6-0.

Lowndes’ top doubles team, Dylan Farmer and Trent Parker, defeated Valdosta’s Caleb Shearer and Houston Maples 6-0, 6-0. Josh Fricker and Greg Rasmussen of Lowndes won the No. 2 doubles match 6-1, 6-1 over Marcel Wehling and Jacob Rice.

Lowndes’ girls also won all five of their matches. Taylor Vinge won the No. 1 singles match, defeating Valdosta’s Savannah Plumly 6-1, 6-0. Lowndes’ Alden Minick defeated Nadine Fares 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and Emily Singletary of LHS won 6-2, 6-0 over Abbie Smith.

In doubles, sisters Lori and Laina Taylor of Lowndes defeated McClain Talley and Cali Swift 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 1 doubles match. Haley Tubbs and Maggie Wisenbaker of LHS won 6-2, 6-0 over Aneesha Chowdhary and Krupa Dudani at No. 2 doubles.

Phelps was happy to win the matches. But he was just as happy to finally see his team back on the tennis courts. Rain had kept Lowndes from practicing or playing a match since last Thursday.

“I’m just glad to be back on the court, and playing a match,” he admitted.

Lowndes’ junior varsity teams also won.

The Lowndes JV girls team won 5-0 over Valdosta. In singles, Tanner Gordon won 7-5, Kristen Gordon won 6-2 and Taylor Everett won 6-2. In doubles, Erin Jones and Taylor Grantham won 6-0 and Hannah Hornsby and Caroline Corbitt won 6-2.

Lowndes’ JV boys team won 4-1. In singles, Zack Ridge won 6-1, Jordan Crawford won 6-2 and Tyler Mixon won 6-1. In doubles, Loyce Turner and Christian Parker won 6-4.
