The Lowndes varsity basketball teams dropped their season openers Tuesday night in Thomasville.
Playing without their best player, Tasia Brown, the Vikettes fell to the Lady Yellow Jackets 55-36, while the Vikings lost 74-71. In the boys’ game, the Vikings were 5 of 30 from behind the 3-point arc and 27 of 40 from the free-throw line. Erick Emmerson led the Vikings in scoring with 18 points, connecting on all six of his free throws, while Tremayne Tippins added 17 points and made 9 of his 10 free throws. Both Lowndes teams (0-1 respectively) visit Tattnall County Saturday. The girls’ game will begin at 4 p.m., with the boys’ game beginning at 5:30 p.m.
