Cook’s baseball team was eliminated from the Class AA state playoffs Friday night, after being swept by the Lamar County Trojans. The Hornets lost game one 2-0 and blew a three-run lead in game two to fall 4-3.
Cook finishes its season with a 17-10 record. Cook lost game one 2-0, after the Trojans scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Hornets outhit Lamar County 7-6, but couldn’t get any runners across home plate. Cook pitcher Stanton Moore pitched five-plus innings, allowed two runs on four hits. He was replaced by Sam Goderdhan and Dalton Rentz.
In the second game, the Hornets raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning before Lamar County answered back with a run in the third, two in the fourth and another in the sixth to earn the victory. The Trojans took advantage of four Hornets errors in game two.
